Whether you're a small business owner, city administrator, or parking garage operator, displaying proper parking signage protects both you and your customers.
Parking signage comes in a variety of types and uses -- standard "no parking signs" and handicap parking signs, and signs custom to your business. In addition to standard signage there are signs for fire restrictions, hourly rate notices and limits, customer parking only, "violators will be towed," custom reserved parking signs, and much more. Because there is a wide variety of parking signage, it is important to meet specific regulations per city codes.
This applies oftentimes to both the material and sign design itself. At Signs. No matter what your signage need, you can use one of our parking sign templates or contact us today to have one custom designed for free. Need help creating your own custom sign? To remove the backing, simply peel it away from the lettering and transfer tape, starting at one of the top corners and working your way towards the bottom. If lettering begins to stick to the backing, stop removing it and press down on the lettering that is beginning to be removed, allowing it to stick better to the transfer tape.
Pre-mask, transfer paper, and transfer tape all refer to the same thing, which is a sheet of transparent paper with a single, low-adhesive side. Once your vehicle lettering is cut to shape, it is properly spaced out.
The non-adhesive side of the vinyl is then placed onto the adhesive side of the pre-mask. This allows the lettering to be installed all at once instead of having to apply each letter individually. Because of the low adhesive on the pre-mask, it is able to apply the lettering to the intended surface and then be removed without removing the lettering from its new surface. We recommend using masking tape and a squeegee or other flat surface to help with the installation of your vehicle lettering.
Use the masking tape in the beginning of the installation to help you maintain the exact position of where you would like your lettering to be installed. Use the squeegee throughout installation to ensure that your lettering will be installed with no creases, bumps, or bubbles.
If bubbles appear under your lettering during or after installation you can use the squeegee to effectively remove them. Other helpful items to have during installation include measuring tape to ensure accurate placement , a level to help make sure the lettering will be installed straight and not crooked , and a damp rag to clean the surface prior to installation.
By default, a squeegee will be included with your order for a small charge. You can remove the squeegee from your order if you would like. However, we highly recommend using a squeegee to ensure proper installation.
Currently, we do not offer the masking tape recommended for installation, but you should be able to find masking tape at any general or hardware store. Installation instructions for your vehicle lettering will be printed on the pack slip of your order, which will be included in the package you receive your vinyl lettering in. You may also refer back to this page for installation instructions. Prior to installation we recommend thoroughly cleaning the area of your vehicle where you would like to have the lettering applied.
This can be done with either mild soap or glass cleaner, water, and a non-abrasive rag. Be sure to remove all dust, dirt, bird droppings, insect remains, etc.
Before applying the lettering, allow the area to completely dry. Applying vehicle lettering to a surface that is not dry may result in the lettering to lose its adhesive properties or not adhere properly. We recommend installing your vehicle lettering in a temperature between 60 - 90 F. If you install your lettering in a temperature higher than this range the lettering may pre-adhere and act more aggressively. This can make installation difficult and may result in your lettering becoming stretchy.
If your vehicle is in an environment above or below this temperature range we recommend moving the vehicle indoors such as a garage and allowing it to reach an appropriate temperature before beginning installation.
Also, we recommend keeping your vehicle in an environment with a temperature above 60 F for the first 12 hours following installation to ensure proper adhesion to your vehicle. Once your lettering has been successfully installed to your vehicle, its quality and lifespan will not be affected by temperature, as long as it is kept within the range of - F.
We also do not recommend removing your vehicle lettering in temperatures below 40F. The first step we recommend taking to remove air bubbles from your lettering is to use a squeegee or soft plastic edge to squeeze the air bubbles out, moving from the center of the letter outward. You can also try lifting the lettering past the point of the bubble and reapplying. If an air bubble is too large and is unable to be removed using a squeegee, you may use a pin or needle to poke a hole in the center of the bubble, allowing the air to escape.
However, use extreme caution in doing so to avoid the possibility of creating tears, wrinkles, or creases in your lettering. We recommend waiting at least 24 hours after applying your lettering before washing your car or truck.
This allows the lettering to adhere to the surface of your vehicle properly and create the bond that will keep it sticking to your vehicle over the next several years. The best way to care for and maintain your vehicle lettering is to regularly wash the lettering with a damp, non-abrasive rag. This will clear it of dirt, dust, and grime, giving it a clean appearance as well as helping it maintain its adhesive properties.
The quicker your vehicle gets dirty, the more frequent we recommend cleaning your vinyl lettering. Avoid using strong cleaners and chemicals or scrubbing vigorously when cleaning, as this may damage your lettering and cause it to begin to peel. Generally speaking, your windshield wipers will not damage or ruin your vehicle lettering.
However, if you have lettering applied in an area that will be run over by windshield wipers we recommend paying close attention for tears or peeling on the lettering.
Areas that are torn or are peeling may get caught by the windshield wiper, causing the tear or peeling to become worse. We recommend avoiding high-power car washes and power washers on areas where vehicle lettering is applied.
However, there are many drive-through and manual car washes that will be perfectly fine for your lettering. It just depends on the intensity of the wash. We recommend carefully inspecting your lettering after a wash to determine if it is having a negative effect on your lettering. The main causes of damage to vehicle lettering include high-power car washes, power washers, improper cleaning using strong cleaners or scrubbing vigorously , improper installation, and windshield scrapers.
Avoid these in order to have your vehicle lettering last as long as possible. This lettering is made from UV resistant vinyl material designed to maintain its vibrant, full color in the outdoors for up to ten years. One factor that helps the lettering maintain its color for this long is because no printing or ink is used.
The lettering is directly cut from a solid-colored sheet of 2-mil vinyl that is both weatherproof and waterproof. Due to the strong, adhesive nature of vehicle lettering, it can require some effort and time to fully remove from your vehicle.
This may especially be the case if your lettering has been on your vehicle for several years or has been exposed to harsh elements. Before starting, we recommend gathering together an adhesive remover, heat source such as a blow dryer , paper towels, and a razor blade.
We also recommend removing vehicle lettering in temperatures about 40 F in order to avoid brittle lettering and breaking during removal. To begin the removal process, begin by spraying the lettering with the adhesive remover and allow some time for it to soak. Then attempt to peel away the lettering from the surface using your fingernail. If you are unable to peel the lettering using your fingernail, you may use a sharp object, such as a razor blade, to assist you.
However, use caution doing this so that you do not damage the surface of the vehicle. If you are still having difficulty, you may use the blow dryer or other heat source on the lettering to heat it up.
This will loosen the adhesive and make it easier to remove the lettering. Please note that using a heat source is not necessary for lettering that is on windows or glass as long as the temperature is above 60 degrees fahrenheit. Once you are able to start peeling up edges of the lettering, continue to slowly peel away the lettering until it is entirely removed from the surface.
Adhesive residue may be left on the surface of your vehicle after removal. Use adhesive remover or glass cleaner that will not damage the paint to remove the residue. If any discoloration occurs, it will be due to the paint around the lettering becoming faded from the sun and elements while the paint under the lettering is kept protected. However, this is a rare occurrence due to most paint on cars and trucks being fade and UV resistant.
If you are concerned about this happening to your vehicle we recommend removing your lettering and installing new lettering in a different location on your vehicle every several years.
